Chef David Bouley will build on his lecture this year at the American Psychiatric Association’s Annual meeting (the first ever by a Chef) and serve a brain-healthy, multi-course menu with a corresponding beverage program by Beverage Director Adrien Falcon.
By highlighting food categories and offering cuisine with the highest nutrient density, the evening will leave attendees with both a fully nourished brain and lessons to guide their brain-healthy eating.
Dr. Drew Ramsey
Drew Ramsey, MD is a psychiatrist, award-winning author, and farmer. He is one of psychiatry’s leading proponents of using dietary change to help balance moods, sharpen brain function and improve mental health. He is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and in active clinical practice in New York City. Using the latest brain science and nutritional research, modern treatments, and an array of delicious food he aims to help people live to their happiest, healthiest lives.
He frequently speaks and conducts workshops nationally, including two TEDx talks BrainFork and Brain Farmacy on food and brain health. His work and writing have been featured by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, Atlantic.com, Prevention, Lancet Psychiatry, and NPR, which named him a “kale evangelist.” His most recent book Eat Complete: The 21 Nutrients that Fuel Brain Power, Boost Weight Loss and Transform Your Health (HarperWave 2016) won the 2017 IACP “Food Matters” award. 50 Shades of Kale (HarperWave 2013) made this superfood accessible to thousands while his first book, The Happiness Diet (Rodale 2011) explored the impact of modern diets on brain health. He is the co-creator of The Brain Food Scale and co-founder of National Kale Day 501(c)3. He currently serves he Chairman of The Communications Council of the American Psychiatric Association and the Editorial Board of Medscape Psychiatry.
Dr. Ramsey is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed his specialty training in adult psychiatry at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, received an M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Earlham College. He splits his time between New York City and rural Indiana where he and his family farm 127 acres
Dana James, MS, CDN, CNS, is a triple certified nutritionist who is also trained in cognitive behavioral therapy. She is the founder of Food Coach NYC and LA, a functional medicine nutrition practice that helps correct biochemical and psychological imbalances through nutrition intervention and psychological exploration.
She received her initial nutrition training in orthomolecular medicine at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition, United Kingdom, Europe’s most prestigious nutrition training facility where the Nobel laureate, Linus Pauling, was a founding patron. She graduated summa cum laude in 2007. Her first clinical hours were at the Brain Bio Center in London, an out-patient facility for people with mental health disorders. It was here that she first witnessed how powerful nutrition was in moderating addiction and brain chemistry. Her client cleared up her food-derived depression in 3 weeks!
In 2006, she moved to New York City and commuted between London and NYC until she finished her nutrition training. Behind the scenes, she was the Head of Strategy and Planning for the Theatrical Division of The Walt Disney Company, a company at which she worked for ten years while studying nutrition and building up her nutrition practice.
Dana is a trained functional medicine practitioner trained through the Institute of Functional Medicine and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. In 2015, she graduated from Columbia University’s Medical Nutrition Program.
She is a state board member for the New York Nutrition and Dietetic board which determines licensing requirements for nutritionists and dietitians, frequently writes for Elle.com and has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, The Coveteur, Well and Good, The Cut, Shape, Women’s Health, Self, Home and Gardens, Eat this, Not That, Buzzfeed, Mindbodygreen and more. She has also appeared on the Today Show, GMA, PBS and Fox News.
In 2015, Mindbodygreen nominated her as one of the 100 Women to Watch in wellness.
