The Chef & The Doctor: Fall 2015 Series at Bouley Botanical

Please join us at Bouley Botanical for a series of collaborative health-focused lectures by world renowned doctors and multi-course wine dinners, curated by Chef David Bouley.

Each event begins at 6:30pm with a reception featuring passed canapés and a specialty health tonic cocktail. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle in the company of the guest doctor. Chef Bouley will then prepare a multicourse menu with wine pairing featuring products and ingredients to address the topic of the evening. The doctor will present during the event and be available for all questions and answers.

Bio: Dr. Philip Stieg, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Philip Stieg is a world-renowned neurosurgeon with expertise in cerebrovascular disorders and skull base surgery. He is the Chairman and founder of the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center, New York City’s leading interdisciplinary neuroscience patient care center. Dr. Stieg is a widely published author and internationally known lecturer, and for over 20 years has been consistently named one of the nation’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly.

Dr. Stieg currently oversees one of New York’s leading neuroscience research programs. Thousands of patients are enrolled in clinical trials for novel treatments of CNS diseases ranging from degenerative lumbar disc and cognitive impairment to Parkinson’s, Gliobalstoma and Epilepsy utilizing the latest therapies in personalized medicine, minimally invasive surgery and gene therapy.

In 2010, Dr. Stieg launched the Weill Cornell Surgical Innovations Lab, the first global multimedia neurosurgical teaching facility enabling real time teaching collaboration in multi site global medical centers. Dr. Stieg’s collaboration with Cornell University’s School of Biomedical Engineering has led to innovative therapies for brain tumors, spinal disc regeneration and epilepsy.

Dr. Stieg is frequently featured in the media for his expertise on breaking news developments in brain health and trauma as well as national healthcare trends. He was the featured neurosurgeon on ABC News NY Med’s 2014 season premiere and has hosted the highly successful NPR radio show, How to Save Your Life.

In 2014 Dr. Stieg launched the first neuromedical staffed Concussion Center in New York. He also provides his expertise in sports head trauma as a sideline consultant for the National Football League and a consulting neurosurgeon to the New York Giants. Dr. Stieg is also as an advisor to the Department of Defense on traumatic brain injury in the military.

Dr. Stieg was recruited as a faculty member of the Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Children’s Hospital in 2000 to build what is now New York City’s #1 Department of Neurological Surgery at NY Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical College. The department serves a broad patient population beyond New York City via its network of affiliated hospital centers in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Westchester.

Dr. Stieg formerly served as a past Chairman of the Joint Section of Cerebrovascular Surgery of AANS/CNS, as President of the Society of University Neurosurgeons and President of NY Presbyterian Hospital’s Medical Board. He currently serves on the board of directors of the American Heart Association’s New York chapter.

Dr. Stieg received his B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin, his Ph.D. from Union University and his M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He trained at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School after completing a fellowship in cell transplantation for restorative neurological function at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Dr. Stieg joined the faculty of the Harvard Medical School after completing his postgraduate training.
